Dog and Cat Portrait From a Photo: Which Photo to Choose
1 photo is enough
You have hundreds of photos of your dog or cat on your phone, but which one will work for a portrait? Here is how to take a pet photo that turns into a beautiful portrait, and which style to choose, from a name poster to a funny magazine cover.
- One clear phone photo is all you need for a portrait.
- The best photo: taken at your pet's eye level, in daylight, with a sharp face.
- Portraits we rework from your photo are drawn after you order and made in 3–7 business days; posters with a live preview in our designer go straight to print.
- Choose a drawn portrait, a poster with your pet's name or a magazine cover.
Which pet photo to choose
A portrait is only as good as the photo it is made from. The person ordering is responsible for the quality of the uploaded photo, so it is worth taking a minute to choose, or taking a new photo using a few simple rules.
✓ A photo like this- ✓ Camera at your pet's eye level
- ✓ Soft daylight
- ✓ Sharp face and visible eyes
- ✓ Calm background
✗ Better not this- ✗ Photo taken from above
- ✗ Dark room and yellow lamp light
- ✗ Blurry, out of focus
- ✗ Eyes in shadow, head turned away
How to take a good photo of your dog or cat
- Get down to your pet's level. Crouch or sit on the floor: a photo from above distorts the head.
- Use daylight. Ideally by a window or outside on a cloudy day, without the flash.
- Catch their eye. A treat or a toy next to the camera will make your pet look into the lens.
- Shoot a burst. Use burst mode on your phone and pick the sharpest frame.
A memorial photo? If you are making a portrait of a beloved pet who is no longer with us, choose the photo that shows the face and eyes best. We can remove the background.
